NEW JERSEY, the United States, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The New Jersey Devils celebrated Chinese New Year on Sunday afternoon while hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League (NHL).
The scoreboard was illuminated with Lunar New Year greetings both in Chinese and in English from time to time during the game.
A team of dragon and lion dancers performed on ice during the intermissions of the game.
"It was nice. It was unique," Charlie Skilton, a local resident, told Xinhua, after the game.
"It's cool to see that...implementing the different cultures into the NHL," he said, adding that it has helped him learn more about the Chinese culture.
Jaycie, a New Jersey ice hockey fan, told Xinhua that it was really fun to see the Chinese cultural elements and learn about the year of the Rabbit during the game.
A unique quiz session about the basics of the Chinese New Year also took place between the second and the third periods of the game.
The New Jersey Devils beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in the game.
